During her two-year term, she hopes to engage Michigan members with new networking opportunities, help with new educational programming and attract new members.

Under The Radar Michigan: The First 50The 25th Anniversary Midwest Book Awards has recognized Under The Radar Michigan: The First 50 (Scribe Publishing Company, 2015) as a finalist in the category of travel. Winners will be announced at the Midwest Book Awards Gala to be held in Minnesota on May 13, 2015.

The competition, organized by the Midwest Independent Publishing Association, is judged by experts from all aspects of the book world, including publishers, writers, editors, librarians, teachers and book designers. They select award winners and finalists based on overall excellence.

This is the second prestigious national book award that the book has been named a finalist in. Earlier this year, it was also named a finalist in the Foreword Reviews IndieFab Book of the Year in the category of travel. Foreword Reviews will announce the winners of the 17th annual Foreword Reviews’ INDIEFAB Book of the Year Awards during a program at the American Library Association Annual Conference in San Francisco on June 26, 2015.

About Under The Radar Michigan and the book:

Under the Radar Michigan is an Emmy award winning PBS television series that features the cool people, places and things that make Michigan an awesome place to live, work and play. The book, Under the Radar Michigan: The First 50, covers all of the places explored in the show’s first 50 episodes. Filled with full-color photography, the guide includes everything from Michigan restaurants and museums, to cool businesses and neighborhoods, to the extraordinarily talented people of Michigan, and includes contact information as well as funny anecdotes from host Tom Daldin’s experiences there.

You’ll speed through Michigan’s Everglades; go to santa school; eat awesome food; hike giant dunes; meet inspired people; explore great wilderness; fly through the air on skis; sail the Great Lakes; tour great museums and even swim at a secret beach. You won’t believe what’s right in your own back yard.

Both of Scribe Publishing Company’s 2014 titles, Our Dried Voices and Under The Radar Michigan: The First 50, have been recognized as finalists in the 17th annual Foreword Reviews’ INDIEFAB Book of the Year Awards.

Each year, Foreword Reviews shines a light on a select group of indie publishers, university presses, and self-published authors whose work stands out from the crowd. View the complete list.

In the next three months, a panel of more than 100 volunteer librarians and booksellers will determine the winners in 63 categories based on their experience with readers and patrons.

“After 17 years, our awards program has become synonymous with quality because our editors set such a high bar on the finalist round, which makes it especially tough for the judges who select the winners,” said Victoria Sutherland, publisher of Foreword Reviews. “In every genre, our judges will find an interesting, high-quality selection of books culled from this year’s entries.”

Foreword Reviews will celebrate the winners during a program at the American Library Association Annual Conference in San Francisco on Friday, June 26 at 6 p.m. at the Pop Top Stage in the exhibit hall. Everyone is welcome. The Editor’s Choice Prize for Fiction, Nonfiction, and Foreword Reviews’ 2014 INDIEFAB Publisher of the Year Award will also be announced during the presentation.
